Me and Yoga Nidra: A Journey Toward Inner Listening

Today, I’d like to share how I discovered Yoga Nidra — and why it became such an important part of my life.

My love for yoga began just over a decade ago, sparked by persistent back pain that lingered after a fracture. I had tried everything: exercises, diet, osteopathy, endless advice — but nothing worked. Then I joined a studio hatha yoga class, and after just a month, the pain started to disappear. I use the word “disappear” intentionally — it felt like the pain had simply vanished.

Through specific hip-opening asanas, I was able to release emotions from a very intense period of my life. The fracture had healed, but the emotional impact of those years hadn’t. A major move and two profound losses had left their imprint on my body — a body that had kept going, stayed strong, stayed present for others… but perhaps a little less so for itself.

So I started there — with my body, with that pain that was limiting my movements and making me feel weak and irritable. I began to listen.

And no, it wasn’t easy. And no, I didn’t become a yogi in six months. But through years of travel and life transitions, I always returned to my mat — even if I forgot it for a while, I never truly abandoned it.

About three years ago, I realized that my journey through yoga — and with myself — needed to take me further. I had been standing still for too long. So I built a regular practice, one session at a time, bringing steadiness to both my body and my mind. Even 15 minutes a day, even with just a couple of awkward poses (because in yoga, we’re never really awkward or perfect — there is no judgment, no competition, only our presence in the moment).

Then Came Yoga Nidra

I discovered Yoga Nidra by chance, during a hatha yoga session — and something clicked.
Visualization had always come naturally to me during meditation, and Yoga Nidra felt like a powerful extension of that inner world. I was lucky to connect with it right away, and over time, I continued to develop this beautiful practice.

A few months in, I felt a strong desire to integrate Yoga Nidra into my work as a counselor — especially as a tool for stress management and emotional support.

Why Practice Yoga Nidra Regularly?

Yoga Nidra is a state of conscious sleep — a bridge between rest and awareness, where the body, mind, and nervous system can deeply let go. It’s an ancient technique that invites us into profound relaxation and inner clarity.

In a Yoga Nidra class, we disconnect from the external world and reconnect with ourselves. We turn down the noise and listen inward.

This practice is accessible to everyone and offers benefits to those who struggle to let go, who suffer from sleep disorders, trauma, burnout, or anxiety. It leads us into a restful and harmonious state of being. Practiced consistently, it can help break negative thought patterns and support deep inner healing.

And yes — there are also some very welcome side effects: lowered blood pressure, reduced cortisol levels through parasympathetic activation, and a better ability to respond to stressors. This doesn’t mean “resisting stress,” but rather knowing how to turn off the fight-or-flight response once a perceived threat is over — something many of us have forgotten how to do.

Over time, Yoga Nidra also enhances emotional awareness and regulation — not through suppression, but through clearer, more compassionate presence.

The ultimate goal of Yoga Nidra is to transform stress. To stop being its victim. To clear away the heaviness and use that space for growth, awareness, and personal success.

That’s why it’s gaining popularity around the world — because so many have experienced its deep and lasting benefits.

What Happens in a Yoga Nidra Class?

We begin with breathwork, becoming aware of our energy and how it flows.
Then we move into the full practice, which takes place entirely in Savasana (lying down).

You’ll experience a form of rest that nourishes both body and spirit.
You might be surprised at how deeply it revitalizes every cell.

But I won’t give everything away here.

Just bring your mat, a cozy blanket, and a healthy curiosity about yourself.
I’ll be here, waiting to guide you.
